The Importance of Packing Properly

Filling your suitcase before a big trip seems like total drudgery and is often put off until the last minute.  How much more, then, might Salt Lake City movers struggle when forced to pack away belongings before a big move?  Believe it or not, packing the right way will eliminate some of that pain and greatly facilitate Salt Lake City movers.

Before you start filling boxes, make sure you have great packing material.  Prepare yourself by picking up these items: durable boxes of various sizes, heavy-duty packing tape, scissors, and permanent markers for labeling.  Don’t forget the fillers:  bubble wrap, Styrofoam, packing peanuts, newspaper, or other materials to prevent damage to your items.

packing materialsAs you begin packing, start with one room at a time.  For example, have one box for all items belonging in the kitchen.  This will keep you at a good pace rather than running around, and makes it much easier to unpack when you’re done.

Before placing items into moving boxes, wrap them carefully with newspaper or bubble wrap.  Pretend like you’re playing a game of Tetris and utilize your space by filling in the gaps as best you can.  Start with the large items, and then fill in with those smaller.

Use Styrofoam, peanuts, or wadded-up paper to cushion empty spaces.  This will keep Salt Lake City movers’ items as protected as possible.  Don’t forget to label items “FRAGILE” on the outside of your box.

Keep your marker handy while you’re filling your containers.  List the items you’re putting inside.  Labeling will make things much easier to find later.

A good rule of thumb is to never pack a box heavier than the woman of the house can handle.  She will be the one most likely to pack and unpack during a move.  Having a box too heavy would make unpacking impossible for her, or extremely difficult.

Moving a Piano Within Your Own Home

Pianos are rather large instruments. Due to their size, they are also rather heavy. Extra care must be taken to protect the piano, the house, and especially those helping to move it. Help from a Utah piano mover or someone experienced in moving pianos would be helpful.

The first consideration in placing a piano is to avoid places where temperature and humidity fluctuate. Avoid placing upright pianos against an outside wall, or over heater registers. Changes in temperature and humidity will affect the pitch and tone of the instrument.

Once you have decided where you will be putting the piano, measure to make sure it will fit. You don’t want to have to move your piano more than once. Also measure any doorways, hallways or other paths you will need to move the piano through to make sure you can get the piano to the desired location.

If you have four helpers, you can lift the whole piano and set it down centered on top of the dolly. Steady the piano at both ends while you slowly and carefully roll it to it’s new location.

Roll the piano endways, not sideways. Be mindful of bumps, steps, or uneven places in the floor. When you have your piano in the desired location, carefully remove the dolly and finish positioning your piano.
