Prepare ahead of time for your movers to come. They will be a big help in making things run smoothly on your big day, but there are some things you can do ahead of time to make things run even better. Here are just some quick tips.
Make a list of items that you would like to keep handy. These items should include items that you may need on moving day, such as first aid kits, blankets, food, etc. Don’t pack them up until everything else is carried off to the car.
Place your pet somewhere safe so they are out of the way. Ask a neighbor to watch them for a few hours while you pack everything up in the truck. If they need to be home, put them in a room that is already packed up so they won’t accidentally be stepped on.
Larger items, such as mirrors and TVS, need custom boxes. Ask your movers beforehand so they can get those boxes to you. This is essential if your moving company is packing up your home as well as moving it.
Keep a permanent marker and labels handy. You will want to mark what items are in each boxes, or which room they came from. It may also be a good idea to label electronic cords individually so you know which cords go with which appliance.
If you are moving within the same city you don’t have to worry too much about your perishable foods. But if you are moving long distance you will need to either get rid of perishable food or give them to friends to finish. Use frozen meals your last few days so you don’t have to worry about packing up last minute kitchen items on the day of your move.
Find containers for transplanting houseplants. You should find firm boxes or containers that won’t break when movers carry them. If you are moving out of the State, research which plants can be taken across the State line.
Professional movers can provide excellent help. They can also give you any advice for your move. Ask them questions and they will be more than willing to answer any questions you have.
