If an area is fairly safe, then you might just want good locks on your doors. Now if the area has a high crime rate, then you might want security systems. You might even want an attached garage because the area has a high crime rate.

There are two types of crime rates, property and violent crime rates. Property crime is things like burglary, larceny theft, motor theft, or arson. In basic terms it is money or property taken, but no force or threat on the victims.

Violent crime is more serious. Some examples of violent crime are murder or negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, or aggravated assault. All of these crimes involve a force or threat of force.

Ogden is in the northern part of Utah with a population of 82,702. Ogden’s violent and property crime rates are at 7. A city in the middle of Utah is Provo with a population of 117,592. Provo’s violent rate is 3 and property rate is 4. The southern Utah city is St. George with a population of 71,161. The violent rate is 2 and the property rate is 4 in St. George.
